Your Invitation to give a Planned Gift

Fr. Francois Charles Nagot, S.S.

Fr. Nagot was a French Sulpician priest who led the first band of Sulpicians to America after meeting with Bishop John Carroll in 1790. In 1791, Fr. Nagot founded St. Mary’s Seminary on Paca Street where St. Mary’s Spiritual Center & Historic Site currently stands. Fr. Nagot was the first superior of St. Mary’s from 1791 until 1810 and remained at St. Mary’s in residence until his death in 1816 He is entombed under the sanctuary of St. Mary’s Historic Chapel.

Historic Seminary Chapel

Mother Seton StatueSt. Mary’s on Paca Street

St. Mary’s on Paca Street is unique in the history of the Catholic Church in the United States. Some of the features that make this site unique are the following:

  • It is the site of the first U.S. Catholic Seminary.
  • It was home to the first U.S. born saint— St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.
  • The site can boast one saint and over 12 other women and men on the road to sainthood.
  • The site served as the spiritual home for three communities.
    • Daughters of Charity/Sisters of Charity
    • Oblate Sisters of Providence
    • Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

No other site has so impacted the landscape of the church in the United States. Consider the missionaries sent forth from here to evangelize the frontier, the early U.S. Bishops who were given the mantle of leadership by Bishop John Carroll, the religious congregations which have their roots on the site, and the thousands of alumni who served as pastors, preachers, teachers and missionaries.

Shocking News

Did you know that more than 50% percent of adults die intestate, that is without having a valid will? Sadly, their procrastination may have a significant effect on their estate. Seldom will the distributions of their estate coincide with their true intentions.

Leaving a Legacy

St. Mary’s on Paca Street has been the recipient of bequests—both large and small alike—from alumni of St. Mary’s Seminary, friends of the Mother Seton House and those interested in the Historic Seminary Chapel. Although these generous donors felt they needed their capital during their lifetimes, they found it possible to make a living legacy gift. This legacy bequest, no matter how modest, speaks of the donors’ fondness for the site and of their association with St. Mary’s on Paca Street.
